Insulating the Property

All fires need an adequate supply of air to burn effectively. Open fireplaces whilst providing much needed ventilation in the summer months, can lead to negative heat loss in the colder seasons. Large fires, oversize openings and generous masonry flues, can create excessive chimney draw which leads to cold rooms and a draughty house.

Period houses with exposed suspended timber floors can add to the problem, and merely blocking off flues can lead to damp and condensation troubles.
